The Festival in honor of the Sun god or Inti Raymi is considered the best and greatest theatrical and artistic show of the Andes Region, to appreciate it is really a unique experience. It is celebrated on June 24 of each year, thus being a Cusco and Peruvian tradition.
This event is ideal for couples, groups of friends, lovers of culture, and for the whole family. During the staging, feel safe, that First Aid, Police and Private Security Posts are available.
The Inti Raymi is an ancestral festival inherited from the Incas, in which tribute is paid to the Sun God and therefore to the Wise Mother Nature, which shelters us, protects, sustains and makes our existence possible. The Incas, our ancestors were aware of this Great Truth, and expressed their gratitude, care and respect in various ways, as for example with the performance of great ceremonies and parties. Hence, we have for you the staging of the Inti Raymi in Cusco.
The first place where the party will take place is at the Inca Qoricancha Temple where the ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m., and from the Av. El Sol they will appreciate the whole ceremony, the ceremony in this place lasts about 1 hour.
After observing the ceremony in the Qoricancha, you walk for 10 minutes to the Plaza de Armas, where you will observe the second part of the ceremony about 45 minutes.
Then, at the Archaeological Site of Sacsayhuaman, where the last part of the ceremony, the most important and principal of the Inti Raymi, will be staged, here the ceremony lasts approximately 3 hours, which will be appreciated from your seat (if is that you have reserved one).
WHERE AND WHEN THE INTI RAYMI IS CARRIED OUT?
The Inti Raymi Festival or Fiesta in honor of the Sun god takes place on June 24 of each year in the magical City of Cusco. The Festival is divided into three acts and each act is performed in a very important historical place of the Inca period, so that the entire sequence of the staging is done in three different scenarios, these places are:
- Saqsaywaman (Great Inca Ceremonial Temple). This impressive archaeological center is located at 3600 m.s., Main place of the staging. Approx. 3 hours in this amazing place.
- The Qorikancha (Golden fence): Place of beginning of the Stage. In the Inca period it was the main Temple consecrated to the sun.
- The Plaza de Armas (Ancient Inca Square known as Auqaypata): During the Inca period, in this immense plaza, the ceremony took place in the middle of the great ushnu or ceremonial platform. Place of the second scene.
Enter the first two stages of the Inti Raymi, that is, the Qorikancha and the Plaza de Armas are free. The entrance to the third stage is to an armchair located in one of the three appreciation Tribunals that are built in the esplanade of Saqsayhuaman, and it is through the reservation and purchase of numbered tickets, in one of the three enabled zones that are specified below .
- 1: Orange Zone (Vip)
- 2: Red Zone (Vip)
- 3: Green Zone (Normal)
